Briefly about nepheline syenite

Nepheline Syenite is a type of igneous rock that has useful compounds, Na2O, K2O, Sio2, ALo3, which is converted into different commercial products during various processes. Nepheline Syenite has received a lot of attention in most countries of the world due to its extraordinary value in industries (aluminum, glass, ceramic, plastic, production of wool , mineral glass, chemical fertilizers, and etc…). This stone is considered as an important source for alumina production in the countries that do not have rich bauxite resources, and on the other hand because of high amount of alkali, it is widely used in glass and ceramic industries in western countries, USA, and Canada that are rich in bauxite resources or have cheap bauxite. Soorin Aras Zendeh Rood is the only Nepheline Syenite processing plant using wet method in the Middle East. This factory has picked up with a capacity of 50,000 tons in 2018.
The Nepheline Syenite complex consists of two parts: Mine and Factory

Mine Nepheline syenite deposit is the largest in Iran, which is being exploited in an area of 100 square kilometers, with a potential reserve of 100 million tons and a definite reserve of 96 million tons.

Factory Nepheline syenite factory consists of two parts, first part is crushing and Particle Size Distribution (PSD) operations and the second part is De-ironing in wet method and packing operations

1Introduction of products related to Nepheline Syenite
1-Glass industry: The most use of Nepheline Syenite is for glass production, such as glassware, fiberglass, frosted glass, kitchen utensils and cup glass. This mineral supplies alumina and alkali needed for glass. It does not have free silica, and the glass paste used in Nepheline Syenite has a lower viscosity. Working with glass paste used in Nepheline Syenite is easier than the glass paste used in potassium feldspar. Due to the low melting point of Nepheline Syenite, the melting point in mixture of glass raw materials is reduced, melts faster and saves fuel. It can also reduce the weight of glass by up to 3%. 2- Ceramic, porcelain and glaze industries: Nepheline syenite is used to produce a wide range of ceramics. Some of these products are: cutlery, sanitary ware, floor tiles, glazes, chemical ceramics, electrical insulation, dental supplies, and ball mill. It acts as a glassing agent in the production of ceramics, and causes the tenacity and strength of the product. Nepheline Syenite reduces the amount of fluxes, temperature and baking time of ceramics compared with other raw materials. 3- Paints and plastics industries: The use of Nepheline Syenite is increasing as a pigment expander and neutral filler. The most important types of these products are plastics, alkyd paints, asphalt paints, metal paints, wood and primer paints. It is increasingly used in the production of hard PVC , epoxy and polyester resins in plastic industry. Also Nepheline Syenite reduces the resistance to staining and the light scattering coefficient in the production of PVC resins. 4- Alumina industry: In Russia, Nepheline Syenite is used as a raw material for Alumina production.
